Organizing and attending a conference in Aotearoa New Zealand provides an opportunity to share and enjoy our beautiful land and culture. It also comes with a responsibility – to care for and respect our environment, minimizing the event’s wider impact. Sustainability is a core principle of our Congress planning and we encourage all attendees to consider the environment before, during and after the event.
The 27th International Congress of History of Science and Technology will be a hybrid event, blending the best of both worlds - seamless virtual connections and valuable in person experiences. By reducing travel and embracing technology, we hope to reduce our environmental impact while still offering the very best Congress content.
The Congress has adopted the following sustainable practices to help reduce the event's environmental footprint, respect culture and promote positive change:
Keeping printed materials to a minimum, with attendees encouraged to use the electronic resources – website and app – provided
Encouraging sponsors and exhibitors to reflect positive environmental values and practices during their time at the congress
Exploring environmentally friendly catering options
Offering accommodation options close to the congress venue, within walking distance
Follow the waste management instructions at all venues and accommodation locations
Encourage attendees to carbon offset flights, accommodation and local travel when booking - see Air NZ initiative below
